Fort Worth, Texas – Rain relief won’t last long in North Texas, where a brief stretch of scattered thunderstorms today through Monday will give way to a building heat wave that could push highs near 100°F by Thursday.

According to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth, isolated showers and storms are possible between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. Sunday, with a 40% chance of more widespread thunder by tonight. Monday will carry a similar threat, especially before 1 p.m., before skies begin to clear and temperatures steadily climb.

Highs are expected to reach 94°F Sunday, with a heat index near 98°F. After a slight dip Monday, temperatures will rebound quickly — hitting 93°F Tuesday, 97°F Wednesday, and nearing 99°F by Thursday. Winds will remain mostly light, but high humidity will elevate the heat risk across Tarrant, Parker, and Denton counties mid-to-late week.

Residents are urged to limit outdoor activity during peak afternoon hours, stay hydrated, and check on vulnerable neighbors as heat index values approach dangerous thresholds by midweek.

No severe weather is expected after Monday, but additional heat advisories may be issued if current trends hold.
