Corpus Christi, TX – An excessive heat warning has been issued for much of South Texas today, with dangerously high temperatures expected to continue until 8 PM CDT. The warning, which took effect at noon, covers a wide area, including Corpus Christi, Victoria, and Laredo. Residents can expect heat index values to soar as high as 115°F in some areas.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), these extreme conditions significantly increase the risk of heat-related illnesses, particularly for those spending prolonged periods outdoors. The NWS advises residents to stay hydrated, avoid strenuous activities, and check on vulnerable populations like the elderly and pets.
A heat advisory is also in place for southwest portions of South Texas, where heat index values are forecasted to reach up to 110°F. The NWS emphasizes the importance of staying indoors during the hottest parts of the day and taking frequent breaks if working outside.
Looking ahead, the region will remain under the grip of high temperatures, with daily highs expected to be in the low to mid-90s through the weekend. Although slightly cooler, these conditions still warrant caution, especially during peak daytime hours. Temperatures are expected to gradually ease early next week, but staying vigilant and prepared is key during this prolonged heatwave.
