Austin, Texas – Triple-digit heat is gripping much of Texas today as heat index values soar past 110°F in multiple regions, triggering widespread heat advisories and one extreme heat warning in effect through Wednesday evening.

According to the National Weather Service, counties across Central, South, and West Texas—including Bexar, Travis, McLennan, Webb, and Terrell—could see “feels-like” temperatures between 105°F and 114°F from noon to 9 p.m. CDT. In San Antonio and surrounding areas, an Extreme Heat Warning is in place this afternoon with real temps climbing to 111°F.

The risk of heat-related illness is high, especially for outdoor workers and vulnerable populations. Residents in cities like Waco, Killeen, College Station, Bryan, and Laredo are urged to stay indoors during peak afternoon hours, drink water frequently, and avoid strenuous activity.

Officials recommend checking on elderly neighbors and never leaving children or pets in vehicles. OSHA suggests frequent rest breaks and shaded recovery zones for anyone working outside.

Temperatures will remain dangerously high into the evening, with another round of advisories already issued for Thursday in parts of South Texas. Warnings may be extended as conditions persist. Stay tuned to local alerts and take precautions to stay safe.
