Lubbock, Texas – Scorching temperatures and scattered severe storms are expected to disrupt parts of northwest Texas today, with some towns bracing for highs near 100°F and damaging weather east of I-27 by late afternoon.
According to the National Weather Service in Lubbock, highs will soar into the mid to upper 90s across the region, with cities like Jayton and Aspermont reaching 97°F and 96°F respectively. Storms are expected to initiate after 3 p.m., especially from Matador and Paducah to Guthrie, where “severe” tags indicate risk of hail, high winds, and brief downpours.
Lubbock and Plainview will stay hot and mostly dry, with only isolated thunderstorm chances. Meanwhile, scattered cells could impact Crosbyton, Spur, and areas south toward Post. Motorists are urged to avoid travel during strong storm cells, and residents east of I-27 should secure outdoor items and stay weather-aware.
While some areas like Muleshoe and Morton will stay dry, eastern counties face the greatest storm potential through this evening. Updates and warnings will be issued throughout the afternoon as conditions evolve.
