Corpus Christi, Texas – Unrelenting heat continues to grip South Texas, with heat index values surging past 110°F in many areas through Tuesday, posing a serious risk of heat-related illness for residents from Alice to Victoria.
According to the National Weather Service in Corpus Christi, the dangerous stretch of triple-digit “feels like” temperatures will persist through Tuesday evening. The highest heat indices—peaking between 113°F and 116°F—are expected in Cotulla, Laredo, and Kingsville. A cold front arriving Wednesday is forecast to push highs back below 100°F by Thursday, offering some relief.
Cities across the Coastal Bend, including Corpus Christi, Beeville, and Port Lavaca, are under heat advisories. NWS officials urge residents to stay hydrated, limit outdoor activity during peak afternoon hours, and never leave children or pets in vehicles. Cooling centers may open if conditions worsen.
Road crews and outdoor workers are especially vulnerable. Employers should ensure frequent breaks and shaded rest areas. This early-season heat is unseasonable, resembling mid-July averages more than typical May weather.
Temperatures will begin to moderate by midweek, but officials warn the extreme heat remains a threat through Tuesday evening. Further advisories may be issued if conditions persist.
