Amarillo, Texas – Triple-digit heat is expected across parts of the Texas Panhandle Sunday, with Palo Duro Canyon likely reaching a sweltering 100°F, posing heat-related health risks for anyone outdoors.

According to the National Weather Service in Amarillo, June 15 will bring widespread high temperatures in the mid to upper 90s across the region, with Amarillo and surrounding towns like Dalhart, Borger, and Guymon all forecast to hit 95–97°F. The heat index may make it feel even hotter, especially in low-lying areas like the canyon where humidity and terrain amplify the effects.

Cities including Stratford, Hereford, and Pampa are all expected to experience oppressive heat, with Guymon and Beaver nearing 97°F. Officials are urging residents to limit outdoor activity to early morning or evening hours, stay hydrated, and check on vulnerable neighbors and pets.

Heat-related illnesses such as heat exhaustion and heat stroke are possible, especially during peak afternoon hours. Emergency officials recommend using air conditioning, wearing light clothing, and never leaving children or pets in parked vehicles.

Temperatures will remain elevated into early next week, with more heat advisories possible by Monday.
