Austin, Texas – Temperatures will surge into the mid-90s by Saturday afternoon, pushing Central and South Texas into near-record heat levels not typically seen this early in March.
According to the National Weather Service in Austin-San Antonio, highs will climb to 92°F Friday in Austin before peaking near 95°F Saturday and remaining in the low 90s through early next week. San Antonio will see similar conditions, reaching 93°F this weekend, while Del Rio could approach 98°F by Sunday, increasing the likelihood of daily record highs.
The prolonged stretch of heat will impact major metro areas including Austin, San Antonio, and surrounding counties along the I-35 corridor. Energy demand is expected to rise as cooling systems run earlier than usual, and outdoor workers face increased risk during peak afternoon hours.
Officials urge residents to avoid strenuous activity between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., drink water frequently, and wear lightweight clothing. Air conditioning is strongly recommended, as fans alone may not be sufficient in peak heat.
This early-season heat wave is expected to persist into early next week, with additional advisories possible as temperatures remain well above seasonal averages.
