Houston, TX – Residents of Southeast Texas, including Houston, are facing a significant heat advisory today as temperatures are expected to soar, pushing the heat index above 108 degrees. The National Weather Service (NWS) has also declared an Ozone Action Day for the region, indicating atmospheric conditions conducive to elevated ozone levels.

According to the NWS Houston/Galveston office, the heat advisory is in effect until 9 p.m. Saturday. The advisory covers much of Southeast Texas, where the combination of high temperatures and humidity is likely to cause heat-related illnesses, especially for those engaging in strenuous outdoor activities or without access to air conditioning. Residents are urged to stay hydrated, limit outdoor exposure, wear light clothing, and check on vulnerable populations, including the elderly and pets.

In addition to the heat, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) has issued an Ozone Action Day for Houston, Galveston, and Brazoria areas. Elevated ozone levels can be particularly harmful to sensitive groups, such as children, the elderly, and individuals with respiratory conditions. The public is advised to reduce outdoor activities, especially during peak sunlight hours, and consider carpooling or using public transportation to minimize ozone production.

As the heat wave is expected to persist throughout the next week, residents are encouraged to stay informed of ongoing weather updates and take necessary precautions to protect their health and safety.
