HOUSTON, Texas – Thunderstorms are expected to hit the Houston area Saturday night, bringing heavy rain and possible flooding before a stretch of sunshine returns to start the workweek.

According to the National Weather Service, Saturday will begin mostly sunny with temperatures climbing to 91 degrees and heat index values near 103. By evening, storm chances increase sharply, with thunderstorms likely Saturday night and additional showers possible through Sunday evening.

Storms may produce brief downpours, lightning, and gusty winds across Harris, Fort Bend, and Galveston counties. Travel on I-45, U.S. 59, and Beltway 8 could slow as heavy rain develops overnight. Outdoor events, including high school football games and festivals, may face delays or cancellations.

The unsettled weather clears by Monday, with highs near 87 and abundant sunshine expected through midweek. Cooler nighttime lows in the upper 60s will provide some relief after the humid weekend.

Residents are advised to monitor forecasts and avoid flooded roadways if heavy rain persists. Additional advisories may be issued if storms intensify.
