Corpus Christi, TX – The National Weather Service in Corpus Christi has issued two separate marine advisories for the Middle Texas Coast, warning of dense fog this morning followed by strong winds and choppy seas later in the day.
A Marine Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect through 6 a.m. Thursday, covering bays and nearshore waters from Port Aransas to Matagorda Bay. Visibility will drop to one mile or less, creating dangerous navigation conditions for small vessels. Mariners are urged to avoid operating in fog and use extreme caution if travel is necessary.
By this afternoon, a Small Craft Advisory takes effect from 2 p.m. to midnight, as north winds increase to 20 knots with gusts up to 25 knots following a cold front. Seas of 5 to 8 feet are expected offshore, making conditions hazardous for small craft.
The NWS warns that inexperienced mariners should avoid venturing into open waters until conditions improve late tonight into Friday morning.
