Houston, TX – The National Weather Service (NWS) in Houston-Galveston reports a stretch of quiet weather through Monday before a strong cold front moves through southeast Texas on Tuesday, bringing cooler temperatures, drier air, and gusty offshore winds.

Forecasters say the front is expected to reach the Texas coast between 4 p.m. Tuesday and 1 a.m. Wednesday, followed by strong northerly winds over the bays and Gulf waters. The NWS notes a high chance (over 50%) of sustained gale-force winds developing behind the front, especially over marine areas from Galveston to Matagorda Bay.

“Very strong winds will be possible over the waters along and behind the front,” meteorologists said in Sunday’s 3:51 a.m. update. Mariners are urged to monitor weather statements closely as gale warnings may be issued if conditions strengthen further.

Temperatures inland will also take a noticeable dip midweek. Highs currently near 80°F will fall into the upper 60s to low 70s by Wednesday and Thursday, while overnight lows drop into the 40s and 50s across much of the region.

Strong offshore winds will continue through Wednesday before easing Thursday. Negative water levels are also possible during low tide midweek, creating hazardous boating conditions.

Drier, more stable weather is expected to settle in for the second half of the week with seasonal temperatures returning by the weekend.
