A Freeze Warning is in effect across large portions of southeast Texas tonight into Monday morning, with temperatures expected to fall between 27 and 32 degrees for several hours, according to the National Weather Service.
The Freeze Warning runs from midnight through 9 a.m. CST Monday, impacting a wide swath of the Houston region, including Harris, Montgomery, Brazos, Fort Bend, Waller, Grimes, Washington, Liberty, Chambers, Brazoria, Wharton, Austin, Colorado, San Jacinto, and Burleson Counties. Cities affected include Houston, Pasadena, Baytown, Sugar Land, The Woodlands, College Station, Conroe, Brenham, and Rosenberg.
According to the National Weather Service offices in Houston/Galveston and Austin/San Antonio, temperatures are expected to drop below freezing overnight, creating conditions capable of killing sensitive vegetation and damaging unprotected outdoor plumbing. Northern portions of Fayette, Lavaca, and De Witt Counties may see the coldest readings, with lows near 28 degrees.
In Chambers County, a Wind Advisory remains in effect until 6 p.m. Sunday, with north winds gusting up to 35 mph. Those winds may bring down tree limbs and cause isolated power outages while making temperatures feel colder overnight.
Officials urge residents to cover or bring in tender plants, protect exposed pipes by wrapping or allowing faucets to drip, and ensure pets have warm shelter. Outdoor watering systems should be drained to prevent freeze damage.
Drivers heading out early Monday should be prepared for cold conditions, especially in rural areas where temperatures may fall fastest.
The freeze marks one of the coldest nights of the season so far for southeast Texas, with temperatures expected to rebound later Monday morning.
