According to the National Weather Service in Amarillo, the latest Climate Prediction Center outlook favors above-normal temperatures and below-normal precipitation for December 21–25. Historically, Amarillo averages only one white Christmas every 11 years, with just 12 recorded since 1892.
The 6–10 day forecast indicates a 62% chance of above-average temperatures for the Amarillo area. Additionally, there is a 39% likelihood of below-normal precipitation, making snowfall even less probable. Average highs for late December in Amarillo typically hover around 49 degrees, with normal precipitation at 0.13 inches.
While the weather may not provide a wintry scene, residents can still plan for comfortable conditions during holiday travel and outdoor activities. Warm, dry weather may also appeal to those eager to enjoy outdoor Christmas traditions without battling snow or ice.
