San Antonio, Texas – Heavy rain continues to drench parts of the Hill Country and southern Edwards Plateau Friday, with a Flood Watch now extended through 7 p.m. Residents in low-lying areas near creeks, rivers, and urban drainage systems face a heightened risk of flash flooding as storms persist into the evening.
According to the National Weather Service in Austin-San Antonio, an additional 1 to 3 inches of rainfall is possible today across the Flood Watch area, with isolated pockets in the Hill Country potentially receiving up to 5 inches. Communities such as Kerrville, Fredericksburg, Boerne, and parts of San Antonio are included in the advisory zone.
Excessive runoff may trigger flooding along roadways, especially near the Guadalupe and Nueces river basins. Local emergency officials are urging drivers to avoid water-covered roads and to heed all warning signs—“Turn around, don’t drown.”
Portions of I-10, US 87, and Highway 281 could become hazardous as rainfall intensifies this afternoon. Emergency managers recommend charging mobile devices, preparing go-bags, and monitoring local alerts in case evacuations become necessary.
The threat of flooding remains in effect until 7 p.m. CDT Friday, but additional warnings could be issued if rainfall rates increase or storms stall.
