Lubbock, TX – Residents across the South Plains should brace for heavy rainfall Sunday evening into Monday, with a Flood Watch issued for the region. Up to 4 inches of rain is expected, leading to possible flash flooding in urban areas and along major roads such as I-27.

According to the National Weather Service, the heaviest rainfall is forecasted between Sunday night and early Monday morning. Widespread thunderstorms will contribute to rain totals of 2–3 inches across much of the area, with localized amounts reaching 4 inches. Poor drainage zones and low-water crossings are especially vulnerable. Residents are urged to avoid travel in these areas during periods of intense rain.

Monday morning commuters should plan ahead, as excessive runoff may cause flooding of rivers, creeks, and highways. Authorities recommend monitoring weather updates and preparing to take alternate routes if needed.

Beyond Monday, the forecast calls for cooler, damp conditions to persist. Rain chances diminish by Tuesday, but temperatures will drop to the mid-50s, keeping conditions chilly. By midweek, skies are expected to clear, with sunny conditions and highs in the mid-60s returning by Thursday.

Precautions for residents include avoiding flooded areas, never driving into water-covered roads, and staying updated through local weather alerts. As always, “Turn Around, Don’t Drown.”
