Lufkin, Texas – Minor flooding is set to impact the Lufkin area starting Tuesday evening as the Angelina River is forecast to rise above flood stage, threatening local roads and parking areas. Officials are warning residents to avoid flooded roadways and stay clear of riverbanks as water levels climb.
According to the National Weather Service in Shreveport, the river near Lufkin measured 160.6 feet late Monday morning and is expected to surpass the 161.0-foot flood stage by Tuesday night. Water could reach 161.1 feet by Wednesday morning, causing overflow in low-lying areas, including the gravel parking lot and nearby roads. The warning covers both Angelina and Nacogdoches counties, and will remain in effect until further notice.
Drivers on rural roads near the river should expect about a foot of water across the left bank and portions of gravel roadways. Local officials urge everyone to “turn around, don’t drown” and never drive through flooded areas. Residents are advised to secure property, move vehicles from low spots, and stay updated on the latest river levels.
Additional advisories may follow if river levels continue to rise. The next update is expected Tuesday at 11:30 a.m.
