Lufkin, TX – A Flood Warning remains in effect for the Angelina River near Lufkin, impacting Angelina, Nacogdoches, and Cherokee counties, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Shreveport. Minor flooding is expected to continue, with water levels forecasted to crest at 163.0 feet just after midnight on Saturday.

According to the NWS, the flood stage for the Angelina River is 161.0 feet, with bankfull stage at 158.5 feet. As of 8:15 p.m. CDT Friday, the river had already reached 163.0 feet, surpassing the flood threshold. Water levels are anticipated to gradually recede after peaking overnight, though no official end date for the warning has been provided.

Residents and motorists in the affected areas are urged to exercise caution. Floodwaters can create hazardous conditions, particularly on roads and near riverbanks. Authorities advise against driving through flooded areas, as most flood-related fatalities occur in vehicles. Motorists should obey road closures and avoid barricaded areas.
