Lufkin, TX – Minor flooding continues along the Angelina River near Lufkin, affecting Angelina, Nacogdoches, and Cherokee counties. The National Weather Service (NWS) reported the river’s stage at 162.3 feet Wednesday morning, surpassing the 161.0-foot flood stage.
According to the NWS, the river is expected to recede slightly but remain above flood stage, with minor flooding persisting through Monday morning. Flood impacts include lowland flooding in areas surrounding the river. Residents are urged to exercise caution near riverbanks and avoid flooded roads.
Similarly, the Sabine River near Deweyville, bordering Texas and Louisiana, has reached 24.6 feet, just above its 24.0-foot flood stage. Flooding has affected roads around Deweyville, including access routes near Niblett Bluff Park and low-lying roads in Beauregard Parish. Conditions are expected to remain steady for the coming days.
Motorists should not drive through flooded areas or attempt to bypass barricades. The NWS advises “Turn around, don’t drown” to avoid potential risks, as most flood-related deaths occur in vehicles.
