Tyler, Texas – Flash flooding is rapidly developing across northeastern Texas, with a Flash Flood Warning in effect for parts of Cherokee, Gregg, Rusk, Smith, and Upshur counties until 4 p.m. CDT Tuesday. The National Weather Service issued the warning as thunderstorms dump heavy rain across the region, already triggering flash flooding in low-lying areas, urban streets, and highways.

According to the NWS Shreveport, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms moving through the warned areas, producing rainfall at rates that could lead to dangerous flooding conditions. Communities such as Tyler, Jacksonville, Gladewater, and Lindale are expected to experience significant flooding, particularly in small creeks, poor drainage areas, and along streets prone to ponding water.

The flood risks extend across several major routes, including highways and local roads, which may become impassable. Residents in the affected areas are urged to avoid unnecessary travel and remain alert to rapidly changing conditions.

With the rain expected to persist for several more hours, localized flash flooding could worsen. Emergency officials advise the public to follow safety precautions such as avoiding driving through flooded roads. “Turn around, don’t drown” remains a critical message, as water levels can rise quickly and unexpectedly.

Stay tuned for further updates as the weather situation develops.
