Corpus Christi, TX – A Fire Weather Watch has been issued for all of South, Central, and Deep South Texas on Sunday, Nov. 9, as forecasters warn of strong winds and dangerously low humidity that could rapidly fuel wildfires.
According to the National Weather Service offices in Corpus Christi, Brownsville, and Austin/San Antonio, the watch will remain in effect from Sunday morning through Sunday evening, following the arrival of a powerful cold front across the region.
Forecasters expect north to northeast winds of 20 to 25 mph, with gusts up to 40 mph, and humidity levels dropping as low as 15% inland. Temperatures are expected to reach the upper 60s to upper 70s, creating ideal conditions for fast-spreading grass and brush fires.
The affected area spans from the Hill Country and Rio Grande Plains through Victoria, Corpus Christi, and Brownsville, covering nearly all of South and Central Texas. Officials warn that “any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly,” and urge residents to avoid outdoor burning and secure loose materials that could ignite or blow away.
A Red Flag Warning may be issued if conditions intensify further. Residents are encouraged to stay tuned to local forecasts and report any signs of smoke or fire immediately.
