San Antonio, TX – A widespread Red Flag Warning remains in effect through 10 p.m. Sunday across large portions of South Central Texas, including the Hill Country and Brush Country, as critical fire weather conditions take hold.
According to the National Weather Service in Austin/San Antonio and Corpus Christi, gusty southeast winds, low humidity, and unseasonably warm temperatures are combining with dry fuels to create a high wildfire risk. The warning spans counties from Val Verde and Edwards eastward through the I-35 corridor, and further south across La Salle, Webb, McMullen, and Duval.
Wind speeds are expected to reach 25 mph with gusts peaking at 35 mph, while relative humidity could drop to 10% in some areas. Temperatures will climb to the upper 90s, adding to the fire danger.
Officials caution that any fires ignited could spread rapidly and be difficult to control. Outdoor burning is strongly discouraged, and residents are urged to report any signs of fire immediately.
Residents in the affected regions should secure loose objects, avoid open flames, and postpone activities that could spark wildfires. This alert follows similar conditions seen during past spring fire seasons, emphasizing the need for heightened awareness statewide.
