San Antonio, TX – South Texas residents should prepare for an increased fire risk today as strong winds and dry air create dangerous conditions. A Red Flag Warning is in effect from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, with another Fire Weather Watch issued for Saturday across much of Central and South Texas.
According to the National Weather Service, a Pacific cold front is pushing through the region, bringing northwest winds of 15-30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph. Combined with humidity levels as low as 9%, these conditions significantly increase the risk of fast-moving wildfires. Areas most affected include San Antonio, the I-35 corridor, Hill Country, and the Rio Grande Plains.
Authorities urge residents to avoid outdoor burning, properly discard cigarette butts, and secure loose outdoor objects that could be blown away by strong winds. Any fires that ignite will likely spread quickly and be difficult to control.
Looking ahead, warmer temperatures continue into next week. Saturday’s high is expected to reach 80°F, followed by 84°F on Sunday. By Monday, temperatures climb to 87°F, with mostly sunny skies. A cooling trend is expected by Thursday, with highs dropping to 73°F.
Residents should monitor local alerts and take precautions to reduce fire risks this weekend.
