Dallas, TX – North Texas is facing an elevated wildfire risk as a Red Flag Warning has been issued for Monday, March 17, from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. CDT. The greatest fire danger will be west of I-35 and I-35W, where gusty winds, low humidity, and dry vegetation create ideal conditions for rapid fire spread.
According to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth, wind gusts of 30-35 mph, combined with very dry conditions, will make fires difficult to control. Areas most at risk include Bowie, Cisco, Killeen, Waco, and DFW, with humidity levels dropping as low as 12% in some locations.
Residents are strongly advised to avoid outdoor burning, secure loose chains, and ensure vehicles do not park over dry grass, as any spark could ignite a wildfire.
Meanwhile, cooler temperatures are expected Monday night, with lows dipping into the 40s across the region. The NWS warns that fire danger remains high despite the cooler weather due to ongoing dry conditions.
