Lubbock, TX – A Red Flag Warning has been issued across the South Plains, Rolling Plains, and far southern Texas Panhandle as critical fire weather conditions are expected Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
According to the National Weather Service in Lubbock, strong southwesterly winds between 30 to 35 mph—with gusts reaching 50 mph—combined with humidity as low as 9 percent and dry fuels will elevate fire risks significantly across 24 counties, including Lubbock, Hale, Lamb, and Childress.
The warning replaces a previous Fire Weather Watch and highlights an increased danger of rapidly spreading wildfires. Outdoor burning is strongly discouraged during the alert window.
Counties impacted include Parmer, Castro, Swisher, Briscoe, Hall, Bailey, Cochran, Hockley, Crosby, Dickens, and others extending through Garza, Kent, and Stonewall.
Residents are urged to secure outdoor equipment that could spark, avoid open flames, and monitor local emergency updates. Fire departments across the region remain on alert, and travel in rural or grassland areas should be cautious due to blowing dust and heightened ignition risks.
