Corpus Christi, TX – South Texas residents face an elevated fire danger on Sunday as dry, warm conditions persist across the region. A Fire Danger Statement is in effect from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., with officials urging caution due to critically dry fuels and low humidity levels ranging from 8% to 20%.
According to the National Weather Service in Corpus Christi, while winds will remain relatively light, northwest gusts up to 20 mph could still contribute to fire spread. Authorities recommend avoiding open flames, safely discarding cigarettes, and ensuring vehicles are not parked on dry grass.
Sunday’s high temperatures will reach the mid-to-upper 80s, with clear skies continuing into the evening. As night falls, temperatures will drop into the 40s and 50s across much of the region. Light winds are expected to persist overnight.
Looking ahead, near-normal temperatures will continue through the week, but fire conditions will remain a concern. Elevated to critical fire weather risks are expected to linger into Monday and Tuesday. Another cold front is set to arrive Wednesday, potentially bringing relief from fire hazards.
Residents are encouraged to stay updated with local weather alerts and take necessary precautions to prevent fire outbreaks during this period of heightened risk.
