Lubbock, TX – Bitter cold temperatures continue across Lubbock and the South Plains, but relief is on the way by the weekend. An Extreme Cold Warning remains in effect until noon Thursday, with wind chills dropping as low as -10°F.

According to the National Weather Service, Lubbock will see highs near 27°F on Thursday before temperatures begin a steady climb. By Friday, sunny skies return with a high of 40°F, and Saturday warms to 52°F. Sunday will see a dramatic shift, with highs near 66°F and clear skies.

Road conditions remain hazardous due to lingering ice, especially on major routes like I-27 and US-84. Travelers should exercise caution Thursday morning. Residents are advised to limit outdoor exposure, as frostbite can occur in minutes at current wind chills.

By Monday, temperatures will reach the mid-70s, marking a stark contrast from this week’s deep freeze. Lubbock will transition from arctic air to spring-like warmth in just a few days.

Stay updated on weather changes, and drive carefully as melting ice may refreeze overnight.
