Huxley, Texas – A light earthquake shook parts of East Texas late Thursday evening, registering a magnitude 3.0 about 9 kilometers west of Huxley near the Texas-Louisiana state line. Some residents in the area just south of Shreveport, Louisiana, reported feeling the tremor around 4:14 p.m. CDT.

According to the Texas Seismological Network (TexNet), the quake struck at a shallow depth of 7.5 kilometers and was reviewed and confirmed by analysts. At least four individuals submitted “felt reports” to the U.S. Geological Survey by nightfall, indicating light shaking with no known damage.

The epicenter lies near Shelby County, close to the Toledo Bend Reservoir and several rural communities where seismic activity is rare but not unprecedented. While Thursday’s quake was minor, local emergency management agencies advise residents to remain aware of potential aftershocks, even though none have been confirmed as of Thursday night.

Shreveport and surrounding northwestern Louisiana communities were not significantly impacted but may have experienced mild shaking.

Officials say no damage or injuries have been reported. More updates will be issued if seismic activity continues or intensifies.
