Fort Stockton, TX – A severe dust storm is impacting portions of West Texas, creating dangerous travel conditions with near-zero visibility and high winds.

According to the National Weather Service in Midland, a dust storm warning is in effect until 2:30 p.m. CDT for northwestern Pecos County and southeastern Reeves County. Emergency management reports visibility has dropped to less than a quarter-mile along FM 1776, with wind speeds exceeding 40 mph.

Motorists along Interstate 10, between mile markers 212 and 271, are urged to use extreme caution. Locations impacted include Fort Stockton, Coyanosa, Saragosa, and the Fort Stockton-Pecos County Airport. Officials strongly advise against travel, emphasizing the safety message: “Pull Aside, Stay Alive.”

Residents in affected areas should stay indoors if possible and secure outdoor items. The dust storm is expected to gradually improve later this afternoon as winds decrease.
