Texas – Bitterly cold temperatures and dangerous wind chills are set to impact west-central Texas starting Monday, with lows reaching single digits. The National Weather Service warns residents in San Angelo, Abilene, and surrounding areas to prepare for frigid conditions lasting through Wednesday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in San Angelo, wind chill values could drop as low as 3°F overnight Monday into Tuesday. Actual lows will hover in the teens to low 20s, with brisk winds making it feel much colder. Gusts up to 25 mph are expected, further intensifying the chill factor.

Travelers on key highways such as U.S. 67 and U.S. 277 should exercise caution, especially during early morning hours when frost could develop on roadways. Residents are urged to dress in layers, wear hats and gloves, and limit outdoor exposure to avoid hypothermia.

By Tuesday, sunny skies are expected, but temperatures will remain cold with highs near 35°F in most areas. Overnight lows will continue to dip into the low 20s, with wind chills staying in the single digits. A gradual warming trend begins Wednesday, with highs reaching near 50°F by the afternoon.

The cold spell is a stark contrast to typical January conditions in west-central Texas, underscoring the importance of preparation. Officials advise checking on elderly neighbors and pets to ensure safety during this extended cold period.
