Houston, TX – Residents across Southeast Texas should brace for an active weather shift Wednesday as a cold front sweeps through the region, bringing thunderstorms, heavy rain, and cooler conditions into the weekend.
According to the National Weather Service Houston/Galveston office, showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop ahead of and along the cold front late Wednesday into early Thursday. Forecasters say a few storms may become strong to severe, with locally heavy rainfall and gusty winds posing the main threats.
Rainfall totals of 1 to 2 inches are possible, with isolated higher amounts, especially along and south of the I-10 corridor. Minor flooding could occur if storms repeatedly pass over the same areas. The frontal boundary may linger near the coast into Thursday morning before drier, cooler air takes hold.
Before the front, high temperatures will remain in the low to mid-90s with humid overnight lows in the 70s. After the front passes, daytime highs will fall into the 80s, and overnight lows are forecast to dip into the 60s—bringing welcome relief from the recent heat.
The National Weather Service urges residents to remain weather-aware and monitor updates, especially for those with outdoor plans Wednesday evening. Commuters should allow extra travel time in case of heavy rain or localized flooding.
