Midland, TX – A significant cold front will arrive tonight, bringing the first taste of winter to West Texas. Residents along the I-20 corridor should prepare for freezing wind chills in the 30s and 40s as temperatures drop overnight into Wednesday morning.
According to the National Weather Service, wind gusts could reach up to 40 mph by Wednesday morning, creating wind chills that will fall as low as 33°F in the higher elevations and parts of the Permian Basin. Northeast winds between 10 to 20 mph will persist throughout the day, making it feel even colder. People are advised to bundle up and limit time spent outdoors during these conditions.
The cold front will lower temperatures from today’s high of 89°F to just 68°F on Wednesday, signaling a sharp shift in weather. Wednesday night’s low will fall to 52°F, with the chilliest conditions occurring in the early morning hours. Motorists along I-20 and surrounding areas should exercise caution, as the wind gusts may affect road visibility and stability, particularly in open areas.
Looking ahead, Thursday will bring slightly warmer conditions, with sunny skies and highs near 73°F. However, the cold front will linger, keeping overnight lows in the 50s. By Friday, expect partly cloudy skies with a high of 73°F, followed by a slight chance of thunderstorms moving into the area by the weekend.
