Houston, Texas – A warmer-than-normal start to March is setting up along the Texas coastline, with Gulf moisture favoring periods of rain from Sunday, March 1, through Thursday, March 5.

According to NOAA’s 6-10 day outlook issued Monday, coastal Texas is favored to see above-normal temperatures during the March 1-5 stretch, while precipitation trends near to slightly above seasonal averages along the Gulf Coast. That warmer pattern eliminates any meaningful snow threat, with rain expected to be the primary precipitation type.

In the Houston metro area, including Sugar Land and Baytown, passing rain showers are the most likely outcome as disturbances move inland from the Gulf. Periods of steadier rainfall could create slick stretches along Interstate 45 and U.S. Highway 59, particularly during peak commute hours.

Farther south, including Corpus Christi and Brownsville, rain should dominate with mild temperatures persisting even overnight. Along the upper coast, including Galveston, Beaumont and Port Arthur, Gulf-driven moisture may support multiple rounds of showers.

Drivers should remain alert for reduced visibility and ponding on roadways during heavier showers, especially in low-lying or flood-prone areas near the coast. While the title references a rain-snow chance, temperatures are expected to remain well above freezing, keeping precipitation entirely liquid.

Additional refinements are expected later this week as the March 1-5 window approaches and system timing becomes clearer.
