Corpus Christi, TX – Boaters and coastal residents are being urged to stay off the water today as gale-force winds and rough seas continue across the Texas Gulf coast. The National Weather Service in Corpus Christi reports a Gale Warning remains in effect until 7 p.m. CDT Wednesday, Oct. 29, for all nearshore and offshore waters from Baffin Bay to the Matagorda Ship Channel.
According to the NWS, north winds of 25–35 knots with gusts up to 40 knots are producing seas ranging 9 to 14 feet, creating highly dangerous marine conditions for small and mid-sized vessels. The affected areas include Corpus Christi and Nueces Bays, Aransas and Redfish Bays, and offshore waters extending up to 60 nautical miles from shore.
Mariners are strongly advised to remain in port, secure vessels, or alter travel plans. The weather service warns of the potential for capsizing, hull damage, and lost cargo in open waters.
Conditions are expected to gradually improve late tonight as winds begin to ease and seas subside into Thursday morning, though choppy conditions may linger near the coast.
