Conroe, TX – A 71-year-old man from Spring, Texas was taken into federal custody Tuesday morning in connection with an alleged threat against U.S. Senator John Cornyn.
According to a statement from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, the arrest was carried out with assistance from the Federal Bureau of Investigation as part of a coordinated operation. Deputies from Montgomery County supported the FBI during the early morning action to ensure what officials described as a “safe and secure execution” of the arrest.
The FBI is leading the investigation, and the man’s identity has not been released as of Tuesday afternoon. Authorities have not disclosed the nature or details of the alleged threat.
“We take all threats to public officials seriously and stand ready to assist our federal partners in any way necessary,” Sheriff Doolittle said in a written statement. “I’m proud of the professionalism and dedication our deputies showed this morning in supporting the FBI with this important case.”
Due to the federal nature of the investigation, officials have advised the public and media to direct all inquiries to the FBI.
As of Tuesday, no charges have been publicly filed. Further details are expected pending the outcome of the FBI’s ongoing investigation.
