Texarkana, Texas – Strong winds sweeping across the Ark-La-Tex Sunday will be followed by a cold overnight drop that could bring freezing temperatures across parts of northeast Texas, southwest Arkansas, and southeast Oklahoma by early Monday.
According to the National Weather Service in Shreveport, a Wind Advisory remains in effect from 7 a.m. Sunday until 7 p.m. Monday for much of the region. Northwest winds between 20 and 30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph may make travel difficult and could knock down tree limbs or cause isolated power outages.
Communities including Texarkana, Mount Pleasant, Gilmer, Hope, Magnolia, El Dorado, and Idabel could experience the strongest winds during the afternoon and evening hours. Drivers on Interstate 30, U.S. Highway 59, and Highway 82 should expect strong crosswinds, particularly on open roadways.
A Freeze Warning takes effect from midnight Sunday night until 9 a.m. Monday, with temperatures expected to fall to around 28°F. The cold snap could damage sensitive plants and pose a risk to unprotected outdoor plumbing.
Residents are urged to secure loose outdoor items Sunday and protect vegetation and exposed pipes before temperatures drop below freezing overnight.
