LA PORTE COUNTY, Ind. – Last evening, a harrowing collision took place, drawing a swift response from the La Porte County Sheriff’s Department. At precisely 6:07PM, the intersection of State Road 2 and CR 500 West became the scene of a dangerous accident between a white 1999 Dodge van and a red 1990 Ford dump truck.

According to La Porte County Sheriff’s Department reports Terry Curry, 66, of Kingsford Heights, who was behind the wheel of the van, failed to yield, resulting in a direct collision with the dump truck. The impact caused both vehicles to overturn, dispersing gravel from the truck, driven by David Henrich, 58, of Rolling Prairie, all over the road.

Both drivers were injured and rushed to local hospitals. Cheryl Curry, 71, also from Kingsford Heights and a passenger in the van, was critically injured and was airlifted to a regional hospital for intensive care.

As the investigation continues, authorities are awaiting alcohol and toxicology test results. A collective of local agencies and departments, including La Porte and Westville Police Departments, assisted in the rescue and investigative measures.
