Wise, VA – A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 10 a.m. EST Thursday as snow and gusty winds continue to impact Wise County, Virginia, and portions of East Tennessee.

According to the National Weather Service in Morristown, TN, up to one inch of additional snow accumulation is expected in Wise County, while some areas of East Tennessee could see up to two inches. Winds are gusting as high as 45 mph, creating hazardous conditions on the roads and potentially bringing down tree branches. Wind chill temperatures in parts of East Tennessee may drop near zero degrees.

The affected areas in Tennessee include Johnson, Unicoi, Carter, Cocke Smoky Mountains, and Blount Smoky Mountains, as well as Gatlinburg and Cades Cove. In Virginia, communities such as Wise, Appalachia, and Big Stone Gap are impacted.

Motorists are advised to use caution, as slippery roads and reduced visibility could make for dangerous travel conditions during the Thursday morning commute. Strong winds may also cause power outages due to downed trees and branches.

Residents should prepare for cold temperatures and avoid unnecessary travel if possible. Road condition updates can be obtained by calling 511 in the respective states.
