Knoxville, TN – A wind advisory remains in effect for East Tennessee, Southwest Virginia, and Western North Carolina until 8 a.m. EDT Sunday, with gusts reaching up to 50 mph in some areas.

According to the National Weather Service in Morristown, Tennessee, strong south and southwest winds are impacting multiple counties, including Blount Smoky Mountains, Sevier Smoky Mountains, Johnson, and Unicoi. While the high wind warning has been canceled, gusty conditions persist, particularly in higher elevations and exposed areas.

Winds of 20 to 30 mph, with peak gusts up to 50 mph, are expected to continue through early morning. Elsewhere, winds of 10 to 20 mph with gusts up to 35 mph are affecting portions of Southwest Virginia and Western North Carolina, including Bristol, Kingsport, and Asheville.

These conditions may cause minor damage, including downed tree limbs and isolated power outages. Motorists, especially those driving high-profile vehicles, are urged to use caution, as strong crosswinds can make travel hazardous.

Residents are advised to secure outdoor objects and remain alert for potential power disruptions. The advisory will expire by 8 a.m. EDT (7 a.m. CDT), with calmer conditions expected later in the day.
