Memphis, TN – A warm stretch of fall weather continues across the Mid-South, with highs approaching 90 degrees through Sunday before a shift brings a chance of rain and cooler air early next week.

According to the National Weather Service in Memphis, sunny skies will dominate Friday through Sunday, with afternoon highs in the upper 80s and overnight lows in the mid-to-upper 60s. Light southeast breezes will keep humidity modest, but unseasonable warmth will linger for outdoor events and high school football games.

By Monday, a weak disturbance may trigger a few showers, mainly during the afternoon and evening hours. NWS forecasters place rain chances around 20 percent, with the best coverage near the Mississippi River. Tuesday carries a slightly higher risk, with isolated thunderstorms possible after 1 p.m. Travel along I-40 and I-55 may be briefly slowed by downpours.

Utility officials recommend checking sump pumps and clearing leaves from gutters before the wetter pattern returns. Parents should prepare for the possibility of damp conditions at school drop-offs Tuesday morning, though widespread impacts appear unlikely.

The extended outlook favors a gradual cool-down. Highs fall back into the lower 80s by Thursday, closer to seasonal averages for early October. Clearer nights could also allow for patchy morning fog in rural Shelby and Fayette counties, especially near waterways.

Residents are advised to stay hydrated through the hot weekend, dress in layers as cooler mornings return, and monitor updated forecasts if planning road travel or outdoor gatherings early next week.
