Memphis, Tennessee – A notable warm-up is taking hold across the Mid-South, bringing temperatures well above seasonal norms and delivering a brief taste of spring before a more active weather pattern arrives later this week.
According to the National Weather Service in Memphis, above-normal temperatures will spread across western Tennessee, northeast Arkansas, and north Mississippi by Tuesday. Highs are expected to surge into the upper 60s and low 70s across much of the region, including Memphis, Jackson, Tupelo, and Oxford. These readings run significantly warmer than typical early January highs, which usually sit in the lower 50s.
The warmth peaks midweek as southerly winds strengthen ahead of an approaching cold front. By Thursday and Friday, that front will bring increasing chances for showers and a few thunderstorms across the Mid-South. While widespread severe weather is not currently expected, periods of rain could impact travel along major corridors such as I-40, I-55, and I-22.
Behind the front, temperatures trend back closer to normal for the weekend, with highs falling into the 50s and cooler overnight lows returning. Forecasters say the transition back to seasonal conditions should be gradual.
Residents are encouraged to enjoy the mild stretch while remaining weather-aware later this week. Additional updates may be issued as rain and thunder chances become clearer heading into Thursday and Friday.
