Memphis, TN – Mid-South residents should prepare for a shift in weather this week, as showers and thunderstorms become more likely ahead of a cold front. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Memphis reports that cooler temperatures will follow by Wednesday, September 24, and are expected to last into next weekend.

According to the NWS, rainfall chances will gradually increase from Monday through Wednesday, affecting cities including Memphis, Clarksdale, Jackson, and Tupelo. Daily highs are forecast to dip from the upper 80s and low 90s early in the week to the mid-to-upper 70s by Friday and Saturday. Overnight lows will fall into the upper 50s and lower 60s.

The cooling trend marks a return to near-normal late-September conditions across the Mid-South, following a stretch of summer-like heat. Memphis, for example, is projected to see highs in the low 80s Tuesday before dropping to the mid-70s later in the week. Areas such as Oxford, Corinth, and Union City will also experience similar drops in both daytime and nighttime temperatures.

Forecasters say showers and possible thunderstorms are most likely in the midweek period as the front moves through. Residents are advised to monitor daily updates, especially for travel or outdoor plans heading into the weekend.
