Memphis, TN – Tennessee drivers are urged to exercise caution tonight as black ice is expected to form on roads, bridges, and overpasses. With temperatures dipping into the 20s overnight, refreezing melted snow could make travel conditions treacherous, especially in Shelby County.

According to the National Weather Service in Memphis, patchy freezing fog is also expected after 2 a.m., further reducing visibility and increasing the risk of accidents. I-240, local overpasses, and residential roads are particularly susceptible to slick spots. Drivers should reduce speeds, allow extra travel time, and avoid sudden braking.

Monday morning commuters should prepare for lingering icy conditions, especially on untreated surfaces. Sunny skies are forecasted with a high near 40°F by afternoon, helping to thaw icy patches. However, with lows returning to the mid-20s Monday night, refreezing remains a concern.

Looking ahead, Tuesday will bring clear skies and a high of 40°F, followed by colder days midweek, with highs near 37°F on Wednesday and overnight lows in the low 20s. By Friday, temperatures will rise slightly, but a 40% chance of rain could lead to additional hazards.

Residents are advised to monitor weather updates and consider delaying non-essential travel until road conditions improve. Visit weather.gov for up-to-date forecasts and safety tips.
