MEMPHIS, Tenn. – A crisp, calm dawn greets the Mid-South this Tuesday, but the feel of true fall is tightening its grip by late week. By Thursday, a cool north breeze and rising rain chances will nudge Memphis and nearby counties closer to the season’s first taste of early-winter weather.

According to the National Weather Service in Memphis, skies stay sunny through Thursday afternoon, keeping highs in the low to mid-70s. Winds turn lighter today but will shift north by Thursday evening as a front approaches from the Plains. Behind it, a pocket of cooler, more humid air builds in, bringing scattered showers by Friday and the first real chill of late October.

Residents planning outdoor work, football games, or Halloween setup should use Wednesday and Thursday as their prime windows. By Friday, conditions grow damp along I-40 and U.S. 78, with light showers possible during both morning and evening commutes. Weekend lows may dip into the upper 40s—cool enough to hint at an approaching first fall freeze for parts of west Tennessee and northern Mississippi.

The cooler trend lingers into early next week. Patchy fog and dew could make early drives slick, especially across low-lying fields and bridges west of Memphis. It’s a good stretch to check heaters, wrap outdoor pipes, and keep coats handy for early school mornings.
