Memphis, TN – A warm and pleasant start to the holiday week will quickly shift to a sharp temperature drop by midweek, according to the National Weather Service in Memphis.

Forecasters say highs in the upper 60s to low 70s Monday and Tuesday will tumble into the 50s by Wednesday and Thursday as a strong cold front moves through the Mid-South. Thanksgiving morning temperatures are expected to be in the 20s and 30s, making for a chilly start for those with early outdoor plans.

Cities across the region — including Memphis, Jackson, Tupelo, and Jonesboro — will see the most dramatic shift between Tuesday’s warmth and Thursday’s cold air, with overnight lows dropping by more than 20 degrees.

“Temperatures will be in the 20s to 30s Thanksgiving morning,” the NWS warned Sunday. “Plan ahead if you have any outdoor plans — it’s going to be cold.”

The Mid-South will remain dry for most of the week, though breezy northwest winds may develop late Wednesday behind the front. Warmer, milder weather could return by next weekend.
