Nashville, Tennessee – Tennessee is emerging as a transition zone in a developing Southeast winter storm, with winter weather chances varying widely across the state from Saturday into Sunday. While confidence is highest to the east and south, the risk continues to expand westward as the system strengthens.

According to the National Weather Service, probabilities for at least minor winter weather impacts range from as low as 10% in western Tennessee to as high as 60–70% across eastern Tennessee and portions of the Cumberland Plateau. Snow is the primary concern in higher elevations and eastern counties, while parts of central Tennessee could see a mix that creates slick travel conditions.

Travel impacts may develop quickly where temperatures dip near freezing during periods of precipitation. Major routes including I-40, I-24, I-75, and I-81 could be affected late Saturday into early Sunday, particularly in elevated and rural areas. Tennessee Department of Transportation crews are monitoring conditions and preparing for possible treatment operations.

Residents are encouraged to prepare for rapidly changing conditions by limiting non-essential travel, charging electronic devices, and ensuring access to basic supplies. Even light snow or brief icing can cause significant issues on Tennessee roadways.

Forecasters emphasize that confidence is still increasing, especially for central Tennessee, and impact probabilities may continue to rise. Additional advisories or warnings are possible as the storm evolves, with winter weather risks extending into Sunday, Feb. 1.
