Nashville, TN – Middle Tennessee residents should prepare for dangerously cold wind chills as a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect through Monday morning. Temperatures will drop into the single digits tonight, with wind chills as low as -5°F, according to the National Weather Service (NWS). Minor snow accumulations of up to 2 inches are also possible, particularly in higher elevations like the Cumberland Plateau.
The advisory is in place from 6 p.m. Sunday until noon Monday. NWS warns that the cold could result in hypothermia if proper precautions are not taken. Travel may also be hazardous, especially on bridges and overpasses. Commuters should monitor road conditions closely, including major routes like I-40 and I-24.
Tonight’s low will fall to 8°F in Nashville, with snow showers tapering off by early Monday. By Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the area will experience sunny skies but frigid highs of just 24°F. Wind chills on Monday morning could still hover near -1°F.
The extended forecast shows gradual warming midweek, with highs reaching the mid-30s by Wednesday. However, another cold night is expected Tuesday, with lows near 9°F.
Residents are urged to protect pets, insulate pipes, and dress warmly when venturing outside. For the latest road conditions, check the Tennessee Department of Transportation’s updates.
Stay safe by preparing for icy roads and dangerously low temperatures. Local officials recommend avoiding unnecessary travel tonight and keeping an emergency kit in vehicles.
