Tennessee greets the morning with a brittle chill, damp pavement, and flakes clinging to windshields.
Cold air presses in from the north. Moisture continues to feed northward. Conditions are lining up for one of the most disruptive winter setups of the season across Middle Tennessee.

A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect for Nashville and much of Middle Tennessee through Sunday evening. Mixed precipitation dominates the event, with snow, sleet, and freezing rain all expected. Ice accumulation between 0.20 and 0.50 inches is likely, especially north of I-40, while 1 to 3 inches of snow accumulates farther south.

According to the National Weather Service in Nashville, freezing rain poses the greatest risk. Ice loading on trees and power lines could trigger scattered power outages and falling limbs. Travel may become nearly impossible at times as untreated roads glaze over.

Snow and sleet increase through the day, then transition to freezing rain this evening. Visibility drops quickly during heavier bursts. Roads such as I-40, I-24, I-65, Briley Parkway, and Murfreesboro Pike become slick early. Bridges and overpasses freeze first.

Temperatures hover near freezing Sunday, limiting melting. Any brief improvement fades fast after precipitation resumes. Flash freezing becomes a serious concern once precipitation lightens but cold air deepens.

By Monday, skies clear but cold air tightens its grip. Morning lows fall near 2 degrees, keeping icy patches locked in place. Crews may need extra time to restore power and clear debris where ice damage occurs.

Looking toward midweek, temperatures slowly rebound into the 30s. Precipitation chances decrease, but lingering impacts remain likely into early next week.

Delay travel if possible. Prepare for outages and icy conditions. What are roads like where you are right now?
