Memphis, Tennessee – Strong thunderstorms could disrupt travel across Memphis on Monday afternoon as storm chances ramp up across West Tennessee through Tuesday.
According to the National Weather Service, showers and isolated thunderstorms are expected between 1 and 4 p.m. Monday, with a secondary round possible Monday night into early Tuesday. Winds may gust up to 25 mph, and while rainfall amounts appear light, isolated pockets could receive up to half an inch.
Commuters along I-240 and I-55 should expect sudden visibility drops and slick roads by the evening drive Monday. Though the severe threat is low, lightning and brief heavy downpours remain possible. Drivers are urged to allow extra travel time and avoid flooded underpasses.
Tuesday brings another wave of instability with scattered thunderstorms developing through the day. Rain may linger into Tuesday night before tapering off. South winds will remain gusty, keeping conditions breezy across Shelby and Tipton counties.
Looking ahead, Wednesday appears drier and calmer with sunny skies and highs near 78°F. By Thursday, cooler spring air settles in with highs in the mid-70s and overnight lows dipping into the low 50s.
