Memphis, TN – An unsettled weather pattern is expected to bring widespread rainfall across the Mid-South this week, with the heaviest showers likely north of Interstate 40, according to the National Weather Service in Memphis.
Scattered thunderstorms are forecast to continue through tonight, with rain chances increasing significantly by midweek. The NWS reports that precipitation probabilities rise to 80–90% by Wednesday and Thursday for much of the region, including Memphis, Jackson, and Jonesboro.
According to the agency, five-day rainfall totals are expected to range from 1.5 to 3 inches, with the highest amounts occurring along and north of I-40. The wet conditions are expected to provide much-needed beneficial rainfall to the area following recent dry stretches.
The probability of precipitation begins at 30–50% Monday, rising steadily to peak levels midweek before tapering off by the weekend. Areas such as Blytheville, Holly Springs, and Tupelo show rain chances exceeding 80% on Wednesday.
Forecasters advise residents to prepare for wet commutes, potential minor flooding in low-lying areas, and disruptions to outdoor activities. The storm system is expected to clear gradually by Friday, with drier conditions anticipated into the weekend.
