Oak Ridge, Tennessee – Light to moderate snowfall is expected to create slippery road conditions across portions of East Tennessee beginning Friday afternoon, with travel impacts likely through Saturday evening.
According to the National Weather Service in Morristown, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect for much of the Tennessee Valley and Cumberland Plateau from Friday afternoon into Saturday. Snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches are expected across areas including Anderson, Roane, Morgan, Scott, Campbell, McMinn, Bradley, and Polk counties. Farther south, Bledsoe, Rhea, and Meigs counties may see 1 to 2 inches.
While snowfall totals are relatively modest, forecasters warn that cold road temperatures will allow snow to stick quickly, especially on bridges, overpasses, and less-traveled roads. The Friday evening commute is expected to be impacted as snow begins to accumulate, with slick conditions persisting into Saturday.
Communities including Oak Ridge, Clinton, Kingston, Harriman, Cleveland, Athens, Oneida, and La Follette may see snow-covered roads develop by late afternoon. Gusty winds at times could lead to patchy blowing snow, briefly reducing visibility in open areas.
Drivers are urged to slow down, increase following distance, and avoid unnecessary travel during periods of snowfall. The advisory remains in effect through Saturday evening, and lingering slick spots may continue even after snow tapers off.
